ACTIVITIES
The main activities of ARTICON include:
Research
Preparation, submission and implementation of national and international research projects and plans as well as advisory or development projects and technical studies aimed at meeting the needs of the scientific community and the society. Most representative are:
- 2015-2016: "Study of morphoplastic elements in the painting of Theophilos Hadjimichael supported by methodologies of non destructive testing." funded by ELKE (TEI-A).
- 2015-2016: "Programming actions for safely moving of book and archival material in the National Library of Greece, from the building on Panepistimiou Street to Faliron Delta".funded by ELKE (TEI-A).
- 2015: "Physicochemical study and documentation of the of the Winds Tower surfaces at the archaeological site of the Roman Agora of Athens for the conservation treatment and the archaeological promotion of the monument" funded by the Greek Ministry of Culture.
- 2012-2014: “Oil Paintings on Paper Support: Documentation of the preservation state using multispectral imaging and chemical analysis. Determination of evaluation criteria – Conservation treatment proposals” . This research has been co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund) and Greek national resources under the framework of the “Archimedes III: Funding of Research Groups in TEI of Athens” project of the “Education & Lifelong Learning” Operational Program.
- 2009: “Multispectral study of oil sketches belonging to the National Gallery and Andreas Soutzos Museum” funded by the Costopoulos Foundation.
- 2002–2008: “Upgrade of the education in the Dpt. of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art TEI of Athens through the introduction of new technologies and informatics” co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund) and Greek national resources under the framework Operational Program "Education and Primary Vocational Training (ΕPΕΑΕΚ ΙI).
- 2002-2006: “Copy books: Historical, Physical Chemical Study and Documentation, Conservation proposals.” (ARCHIMIDIS I), funded by the Operational Program "Education and Primary Vocational Training (ΕPΕΑΕΚ ΙI).

- 2000 - 2005: “CULTURE 2000/A2/GR-96-DiARTgnosis: Study of European Religious painting” REF2000/1182, funded by EU. The TEI research team had the resposibility for diagnosis and documentation using non-destructive testing and physical chemical microanalysis of twelve post Byzantine icons belonging to the Loverdos’ collection of Byzantine and Christian Museum. The results of this study have been presented in the CD ROM of the program and the handbook “DiARTgnosis –The Loverdos’ Collection”.
- 2002–2006 : " CRAQUELURE: Methodology for the extraction of the crack patterns and specific characteristics by the use of mathematical image processing of the visible, ultraviolet and infrared recordings" funded by «ATHENS 2004» ELKE (TEI-A).
- 2001: “SAVE ART: Art and Technologies in Conservation”. Intensive educational program funded by Erasmus-Socrates Office in collaboration with the Byzantine and Christian Museum, Greece, the Universidad del Pais Vasco, Spain, the AkademiaSztukPieknychW.Krakow, Poland, the Hogeschool Antwerp, Belgium, the Accademia di Belle Arti Aldo Galli, Italy and the Vyskola Skola VytarnychUmeni, Slovakia.
- 1997-2000: “Design and Implementation of the Curriculum of the Dpt of Conservation of Works of Art and Antiquities” funded by the Operational Program "Education and Primary Vocational Training (ΕPΕΑΕΚ Ι).
- 1999: “Evaluation of Educational Work and Services of the Dpt of Conservation of Works of Art and Antiquities, TEI of Athens”. Educational Program funded by the Operational Program "Education and Primary Vocational Training (ΕPΕΑΕΚ Ι).
- 1994-1995. “Study of ageing mechanism of the organic materials of artworks”, Joint Research Program between the Photochemistry Laboratory at the Joseph Fourier University, Grenoble, France and the Laboratory of Physical Chemical Methods applied to Works of Art, TEI of Athens, funded by the GSRT.
- 1990: “Image processing techniques for the study of infrared images. Application to Bouzianis’ paintings”. Two years National research program funded by the GSRT elaborated in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, School of Chemical Engineering NTUA.
- 1988: “Application of image processing techniques to the study of painted artworks”, Joint Research Program ERASMUS UCP-87-0004-G1-GR elaborated in Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, School of Chemical Engineering NTUA, funded by EEC in collaboration with OpificiodellePietreDure e Laboratori di Restauro di Firenze, Italy andUniversitéScientifique et Medicale de Grenoble, CERMO France.
- 1984 - 1986: “Physical Chemical Study of twenty byzantine icons belonging to the Byzantine and Christian Museum”, Joint Reseach Program elaborated in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, School of Chemical Engineering NTUA, funded by EEC in collaboration with InstitutFrançais de Restauration des Oeuvres d' Art (IFROA), Paris France.
